INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Clinical Pediatrics is a practice-oriented journal. We solicit and encourage submission of manuscripts of value to the practitioner in all areas of child care on any topic concerning pediatric practice, clinical research, behavioral and educational problems, community health issues, and subspecialty or affiliated specialty applications to pediatric practice.

Manuscripts may be in the following formats:

Original articles: original clinical research concerning diagnosis and management, sociologic and anthropologic studies, and studies on delivery of health care. Original articles should be accompanied by an abstract of 100 words or less.

Review articles: review articles on subjects relevant to the delivery of health care to children, particularly with emphasis on the basic science foundation of clinical practice. Before submission, authors of review articles are encouraged to consult with the Editor.

Brief reports: articles of less than 1,500 words with no abstract, a total of one or two tables or figures, and no more than 10 references.

Letters to the Editor: letters pertaining to manuscripts published in Clinical Pediatrics or on topics of interest should be approximately 300 words with no more than five references.

Manuscripts will be accepted or rejected within 2 months of receipt. Manuscripts are not returned to the authors. Reviewers are instructed to destroy manuscripts after review. Original illustrations are returned only if requested by the authors.

Three copies of the manuscript, doublespaced and with wide margins, should be submitted along with a 3.5-inch computer disk prepared with any major Windows based or Macintosh word processing soft are program. Be sure to indicate on the disk which program and version were used. If no computer disk is available, four copies of the manuscript should be submitted. The pages should be numbered, starting with the title page.

The title page should include authors' names and academic degrees. departmental and institutional affiliations of each author, and sources of financial assistance, if any. One author should be designated as the corresponding author.

Laboratory values may be described in either metric mass units or the Intenational System of Units (SI units). The equivalent value in the alternate system should be given in parentheses immediately after the primary value The same sequence should be used in each article.

References should be numbered in order of appearance in the text. following the format Set forth in the -Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" ( Ann Intern Med 1997;126:36-47), with journal abbreviations according to Cumulated Index Medicus.

Tables, numbered consecutively as cited in text, should be typed double-spaced, on a separate sheet and with a brief title.

Figures (three copies) should be black-and-white illustrations or black-and-white glossy photographs. Color artwork can be published only at the author's expense.

Figure legends, typed double-spaced on a separate sheet, should clearly identify any symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters used in the illustration. Identify staining methods and magnifications in photomicrographs.

Permission of author and publisher must be obtained for the direct use of previously published material (text, table, or illustrations) and must accompany the manuscript when it is submitted for publication.

All manuscripts must be accompanied by a transmittal letter with the following written statement, signed by all authors: "The undersigned authors transfer all copyright ownership of the manuscript entitled (title of article) to Westminster Publications in the event the work is published. The authors affirm that the article is original, is not under consideration by another journal, and has not been previously published."
